New York Times wine writer, Eric Asimov, covered American Gewurztraminer in his column today and recognized Thomas Fogarty's rendition as a standout, which is certainly not a surprise to me, but may be news to those of you who have not yet had the pleasure...
"Our top bottle from California... was the 2007 Thomas Fogarty from Monterey County, which had an almost Alsatian richness and purity, with a fine, balancing acidity."
"Thomas Fogarty Gewurztraminer - 2 1/2 stars
California Monterey County 2007
Clear, true grapefruit and floral aromas; touch of sweetness."

I've written numerous previous entries about the Fogarty Winery in my blog and you can find links to all of them at: http://halby-herald.blogspot.com/p/archived-contents.html. Of course, for the latest, up to date info on Fogarty, you can go straight to the source at the winery's own web site www.fogartywinery.com.
Off topic, but possibly of interest to some, while using the NYT search engine to find the article above, I stumbled across a recent interview with former Creedence Clearwater frontman, John Fogerty, who will be playing at this year's upcoming Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cooperstown, NY.
Although not actually related to Thomas Fogarty, (note the different spellings,) the musician's name frequently comes up in conversation, when either drinking or talking about Thomas Fogarty wines. In the interview, John Fogerty tells the story behind his hit song, Centerfield. See http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/05/24/john-fogerty-tells-the-story-behind-centerfield/
